In the case of Clown, the idea simply came about to bring fear back into the genre of horror. So often in the past decade, horror films have consisted of jump-cuts, cheap scares, and "MTV" style editing.
What Clown is doing is nothing new; in fact it’s quite an old style of filmmaking. It means using traditional values that were associated with films of an earlier time; films that used shear terror to attract an audience, films that pushed the envelope in their day. Horror fans have been desensitized by the countless use of cheap scares to strike fear.
Clown is not trying to be another film. It doesn’t pay homage to any particular film. It stands on its own two feet as a throwback to the way films used to be. The idea came to Writer and Director, Robert Newman, after noticing the barrage of "PG-13" laden horror films being released by Hollywood. With fellow collaborator and Executive Producer, Eric Mueller, they molded the idea into a feature, which not only shocks the system, but also gives the audience a feeling that has needed to long be fulfilled.
NewGil Pictures is a longtime front-runner for low-budget horror, much like the studios of yesteryear, which used clever technique to create what they were going for. No one expects great things from Clown, any big shot award ceremonies, or interviews on the Actor’s Studio. We are simply creating a film that will scare and compliment the films that our team has grown up watching and loving.
Shooting of the film takes place in the filmmakers’ native state of Washington. Where the lush forests, and towering Cascade Mountains provide a bleak and eerie backdrop for our heroes and of course, the menacing clown figure that has gone too long without spilling blood.
Headlining the film are up and coming actors who fit the roles they play, almost too well. The cast includes Breeun Headlee, Jason Thayer, Ryan Parrish, and a multitude of other local players who make the production of Clown fun and exciting. With an experienced team of Producers, Director, and Cinematographer, Clown will hopefully exceed the expectations of its loyal viewers, who are thirsting for something old, yet familiar.
